Campbell-Austin Peay Notes
- Campbell and Austin Peay have not met in men's basketball. In a scheduling quirk, the Camels and Governors will also face off on a second neutral court this year, Dec. 21 at the St. Pete Shootout.
- Campbell is 3-0 vs. Ohio Valley Conference members under the direction of head coach Kevin McGeehan (since 2013-14). CU swept a home-and-away series with SIU-Edwardsville (2014-2016) and most recently defeated UT-Martin in the 2017 CIT second round.
- Austin Peay finished 19-15 overall, 12-6 (3rd) in the OVC last season, its first under head coach Matt Figger, and reached the CIT second round. A former assistant under Frank Martin at Kansas State and South Carolina, Figger was named OVC Coach of the Year.
- Founded in 1927 and named for then-sitting Tennessee Governor Austin Peay, the University is located in Clarksville and enrolls more than 10,000 students.
- APSU is one of only nine programs among 351 Division I members to include two 7-footers on its roster - Ivan Cucak and Matheus Silveira.
- Terry Taylor was named OVC Freshman of the Year in 2018 after averaging 15.6 points and 8.6 rebounds.
- Austin Peay was picked 4th in the OVC preseason poll, despite having only three players on the roster with more than one year of experience in the program.
- Notable APSU alumni include James "Fly" Williams - legendary 70s basketball standout, who played in the ABA, and singer-songwriter Josh Rouse.
Comeback Breakdown
- Campbell trailed by 15 points with 18:03 left and by 14 (43-29) with 15:27 to go Friday before rallying for a 66-59 victory over Florida A&M in the Jamaica Classic at Montego Bay. However, after Tracy Hector hit a jumper to push the margin to 14, Campbell's Chris Clemons sank a three with 15:00 left to begin a decisive 19-0 run. In the burst, Campbell went 7-8 from the floor, including 4 threes, forced 3 turnovers - including a shot clock and 10-second violation - and held FAMU to 0-4 shooting from the floor, while the Rattlers also missed 2 free throws. Trey Spencer's triple pushed the Camel lead to 48-43 before Justin Ravenel ended the run with a trey.
- CU extended the 19-0 run to 24-3 and led 53-46 with 8:41 to play after Spencer's lay-in. The Rattlers rallied and tied the game at 54 on Rod Melton's triple with 6:22 remaining. However, down the stretch, Campbell held FAMU to just 2-11 shooting and forced 3 turnovers, while hitting 6-of-8 from the line in the final 54 seconds to seal the victory.
