LYNCHBURG, Va. — Maddie Baiotto broke her own program record in the 100 fly preliminaries Saturday at the Liberty Invitational, and then preceded to break that record just hours later in the finals round.
In the prelims, Baiotto swam a 55.08, surpassing her previous mark by 0.10 seconds. She set the new 100 fly record with a time of 54.96 in the finals, finishing third on the day.
Madison Scott also finished in the top-10 of the 100 fly finals, taking ninth place with a time of 55.88. Her mark of 55.55 in the prelims was a season-best for the senior.
Annie Sanchez posted a season-best 1:51.76 in the 200 free finals to take fourth place, while Taylor McMinn placed third in the 100 breast finals with a time of 1:03.66, another season-best.
In the 400 IM finals, Karah Sizemore placed fifth with a swim of 4:32.24, her fastest time this season. Megan Everritt rounded out Campbell's top-10 individual finishers, taking fifth place in the 100 back finals in 56.60. She swam her prelims round in 56.42, a season-best for the junior.
Campbell opened the finals round with a fourth-place finish in the 200-medley relay as the team of Everritt, McMinn, Baiotto and Wilson swam a 1:43.94. The Camels concluded the day with a time of 7:42.43 in the 800-free relay. That team consisted of Sanchez, Neringa Cerniauskaite, Wilson and Hannah Kendall.
Through two days at the Liberty Invitational, the Camels own 1051.5 points in the five-team event, beating out Georgia Southern's total of 996.5. Navy leads with 1921, followed by Liberty (1267) and James Madison (1115).
Action will conclude on Saturday with the preliminary rounds beginning at 10 a.m., while the finals are set for a 5 p.m. start.
