Camels host Citadel on Military Appreciation night

Nation's top scoring individual faces top scoring team

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell entertains The Citadel Tuesday in a 7 pm tipoff between the high-scoring regional rivals.  The Citadel enters the game as the nation's highest-scoring team (101.3 points per game), while Campbell features the nation's top individual scorer in Chris Clemons (31.0).

All active and former military personnel will receive two free tickets to Tuesday game by displaying ID at the ticket window.

The Camels (5-4) are coming off a 100-53 win last Thursday over Central Penn when they made 60 percent of their shots, including 11-of-24 threes.  Clemons scored 28 points, Ja'Cor Nelson added a career-high 21, Trey Spencer and Jon Ander Cuadra 11 each, while Cory Gensler chipped in 10.

The Citadel (8-2) won its 6th-straight game Saturday in an 86-74 home victory over Southeast Missouri State.  The Bulldogs made 11 threes and finished with a 27-11 edge in points off turnovers.  Kaiden Rice (19 points) and Matt Frierson (18) each hit 5 three-pointers.

Campbell-The Citadel Notes
  • Tuesday's game marks the 4th-straight season that Campbell and The Citadel have met in men's hoops.  Before the recent revival of the series, the Camels and Bulldogs went more than 30 years (Jan. 8, 1983 to Dec. 19, 2015) between games.
  • Campbell has won three-straight games in the series with the Bulldogs, including two at Gore Arena.  CU defeated The Citadel 101-82 on Dec. 19, 2015 at Buies Creek before winning 97-91 on Dec. 4, 2016 in the Holy City Hoops Classic. Last year at Gore Arena, the Camels claimed an 87-77 victory behind 32 points from Chris Clemons, 16 from Cory Gensler and Andrew Eudy's double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds.
  • In 3 games all-time vs. The Citadel, Chris Clemons is averaging 30.0 points while shooting 55 percent from the floor (28-51), 50 percent from 3-point range (13-26) and 84 percent (21-25) from the line.
  • Over the last 2 meetings with the Bulldogs, Cory Gensler averaged 14 points and 4.5 assists, while Andrew Eudy contributed 10 points and 7 rebounds.
  • Campbell stands 8-3 vs. Southern Conference members in six seasons under head coach Kevin McGeehan, 3-0 vs. The Citadel.
  • The Citadel is 1-0 vs. Big South Conference members this season - a 112-87 win over High Point Nov. 27 at McAlister Field House.  After facing the Camels Tuesday, the Bulldogs host Longwood Dec. 29.
  • Only 22nd-ranked Clemson (100-80) and Texas (97-69) have defeated The Citadel this season.  The Bulldogs are 6-0 at home this year, 2-2 on the road including wins at James Madison (91-82 OT) and South Florida (84-81).
  • Duggar Baucom-coached teams are 4-6 all-time vs. Campbell.  His VMI teams posted a 4-3 record in 7 games vs. the Camels from 2008-14.  Coach Baucom's squads are 1-4 all-time at Gore Arena.
  • Grad transfers Lew Stallworth (UTRGV) and Connor Kern (Arkansas State) have made an immediate impact on the Bulldog lineup. A 6-foot guard, Stallworth leads the team in scoring (17.1) and ranks 11th in the nation in asslsts (6.9).  A 6-4 guard, Kern contributes 10.6 points and it shooting 46.5% (20-43) from 3-point range.
