BUIES CREEK, NC - Louis Monterosso and
Ted Williams both won their singles and doubles matches to record a perfect 2-0 mark on the day as Campbell (2-2) defeated Wingate 6-1 to open the 2018 home spring slate on February 1.
Monterosso won the first set against the Bulldogs' (0-1) Enrico Giacomini 6-4 before falling in the second set 3-6. In the final set, the junior trailed 8-3 but rallied back to claim a 15-13 win to clinch the win over Giacomini.
Williams rallied to win two sets after falling in the first set 3-6 to Tamir Geva. He came back to win the second and third slate 6-4, 10-7.
The Bulldogs' sole win on the singles side came from Daneil Belsito 7-6, 6-1 over
Ondrej Labik and their only doubles win came from duo Belsito and Josh Dutoit, 6-3, over
Gerard Sola and
Jonathan O'Neal.
Sola bounced back and claimed a singles win over Matthew Jones 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
Three Camels breezed through singles play including a 6-2, 6-2 win for
Dustin Werner over Josep Canyadell. The other singles match featured winner Lorenze Schwab over Dutoit 6-4, 6-4 and Sola's win over Jones.
The Camels return to Friday, February 9 at UNC Greensboro. The match is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. Follow Campbell tennis on twitter
