DURHAM, N.C. –
Mackenzie Koeller scored four goals, but No. 18 Duke topped visiting Campbell 18-8 Friday afternoon Koskinen Stadium.
Charlotte North paced Duke (2-0) with six goals and an assist in the win. The Blue Devils controlled 20-of-27 draws over the Camels (0-2).
Duke converted the game's first nine draw controls to lead 7-2 at the 18:51 mark of the first.
With the Blue Devils up 3-0,
Annie Pazulski put Campbell on the board with 24:17 on the clock for her second goal of the season, assisted by
Kayla Reilly.
Duke answered with four straight goals, including a strike from Ellie Majure to put the Blue Devils up 7-1.
Melissa Placek added a Campbell goal with 17:01 to go in the opening stanza, but Duke closed the half on a 7-0 run to lead it 14-2 at the break.
In the second half, Campbell outscored the Blue Devils 6-4, with four goals coming from Koeller, scoring three straight in the contest at the 14:59, 13:34 and 9:54 marks.
The senior added an assist in the loss.
Kayla Reilly also posted a pair of goals and an assist for the Camels.
Kyra Harney notched five more points for Duke, registering two goals and three assists. Olivia Jenner added two goals and an assist. Grace Fallon and Catriona Barry also posted goals for Duke.
Kylie Haarhoff collected nine saves for the Camels in goal, while three Blue Devils combined for nine saves in goal. Haarhoff and
Megan Reilly picked up five ground balls apiece, with Reilly adding three caused turnovers.
Duke owned the edge on shots 35-25, with 27 on goal.
The Camels will take on Virginia Tech on the road on Wednesday, February 21. Campbell hosts East Carolina in its home opener on February 24 at Barker-Lane Stadium.
