No. 25 Virginia Tech tops Camels 17-8

BLACKSBURG, VA. – Emma Crooks posted eight goals, including five in the second half, to power No. 25 Virginia Tech over Campbell 17-8 Wednesday afternoon at the Indoor Practice Facility.

Crooks notched five of the Hokies' (2-2) 10 second half goals to top Campbell (0-3), who trailed by just a pair at the half, 7-5. Julia Bolte added five assists and a pair of goals in the win.

Melissa Placek paced Campbell with her first hat trick of the season, adding two caused turnovers and a ground ball.

The Camels jumped on the board with quick goals from Sarah Paul (28:32) and Tina Ricci (27:43) to put Campbell up 2-0.

With the Hokies up 6-3, Campbell scored two of the final three goals of the first half, including strikes from Carter Koontz and Annie Pazulski, bringing the Camels within 7-5 at the break.

VT registered the first four goals of the second half to go up 11-5 on Crooks' fourth of the day.

A pair of Placek goals brought Campbell back within 12-8 with 14:30 to play, but the Hokies finished the game on a 5-0 run, including three more goals from Crooks, to take the 17-8 victory.

VT owned a 20-11 edge on shots in the second half, and picked up 13 ground balls after collecting just three in the opening period.

Meagh Graham saved 13 Campbell shots for the Hokies.

Ricci posted two goals for the Camels, while Kayla Reilly delivered two assists. Kylie Haarhoff notched nine saves for the Camels in goal.

Campbell hosts East Carolina in its home opener on February 24 at Barker-Lane Stadium.
