NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – Four double-digit scorers paced Charleston Southern to a 63-59 victory over Campbell on Tuesday evening inside Buccaneer Field House.
Weknyne Dumorne led the offensive performance for Charleston Southern (10-12, 5-6), scoring 15 points on a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor. Shelby Wilbanks added 13 points off the bench, while Njeri Nelms and Ke'Asia Jackson each had 12.
Summer Price led Campbell (12-10, 5-6) with her eighth 20-plus point performance of the season, scoring 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting (57.1 percent). Price was nearly flawless from behind the arc, knocking down 5-of-6 (83.3 percent) in Tuesday's contest.
As a team, Campbell was 45 percent (9-20) from long range and 46.7 percent (21-45) from the floor. CU's three-point defense continued to stifle the opposition, limiting CSU to 28.6 percent (4-14) from distance.
Price's 23 points moves her into the top-10 all-time scoring list with 1,262 points. She is 14 points away from ninth place, which is held by Ronda Mueller.
The Camels only held the lead once in the second half, 48-47, after a 3-pointer from
Caroline Bowns 62 seconds into the fourth quarter. The Bucs shot a perfect 4-for-4 during a 10-2 run to reach its largest lead of seven at 57-50 with 5:44 left.
CU closed the gap to two points three separate times during the final 1:48, but CSU tallied 4-of-6 from the line to hold on to the win.
Price led the Camel offense in the first half, scoring 13 points on 5-of-9 (55.6 percent) shooting, including 3-of-4 (75 percent) from long range. Campbell shot 11-for-23 in the half, a 47.8 percent clip, but Charleston Southern shot 13-of-26 (50 percent) to hold a four point halftime lead.
Seven scorers led the way for the home side, as Nelms scored a team-high nine points on 4-of-5 shooting in the half.
Campbell held the advantage on the glass, snagging 34 rebounds, led by
Kyra Davis' eight.
Ashlyn Hampton and Price grabbed six each for CU.
CSU posted a slight advantage in the paint, outscoring the Camels 20-18, as the two sides matched each other off the bench at 16-16.
Campbell returns home on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest against Liberty.
