BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Tyler Stockwell hit 3-for-5 with five RBI to lead the Broncs as Rider defeated Campbell 13-4 Wednesday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium.
Christian Jones (4-for-4, 3 RBI) was a triple shy of the cycle as the senior infielder finished with a single, two doubles and a home run to lead the Camels offensively.
Matthew Barefoot (2-for-5, RBI) posted his third multi-hit outing with a single and a double, while
Jeff Hahs (2-for-4) logged a multi-hit performance in his season debut with two singles.
CJ Hirschy (1-1) picked up the win, giving up two runs on five hits over 5.0 innings of work.
Phil Simpson (0-1) took the loss in his first start as a Camel, allowing two earned runs over 2.0 innings.
Campbell (7-10) got on the board first as
Christian Jones sent a double down the left field line to score Barefoot in the bottom of the first. Rider (5-11) responded with the next four runs of the game, including a three-run top of the third.
Jones cranked his team-leading fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth, sending a solo shot over the left field wall to make cut the Rider lead to 5-2. The bomb gave Jones his eighth muli-hit game of the season, a mark that also leads the team.
The teams traded one run apiece in the sixth, as Richie Tecco (1-for-4, RBI) knocked an RBI-single in the top half before Barefoot scored
Bryce Myers on an RBI-double in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Rider scored the next seven runs of the game, capped off by a three-run home run from designated hitter Riley Mihalik (2-for-4, 3 RBI) in the top of the eighth. Jones picked up his second RBI-double in the bottom half, scoring Hahs to make the score 13-4.
Up next, the Camels hit the road as Campbell begins conference play at Charleston Southern. The three-game Big South series is set for Friday through Sunday, March 16-18 in North Charleston, S.C.
