Camels top George Mason 14-11

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Melissa Placek netted six goals and Annie Pazulski notched six assists to lead Campbell over George Mason 14-11 Wednesday at Barker-Lane Stadium.

Placek's six goals matched a season-best, while Pazulski's six assists equaled a career-high and a single-game school record (Pazulski at Butler, 3/6/18; Erica Hitch at Mercer, 3/20/16; Annie Cook vs. Kennesaw State, 3/1/15).

Campbell moved to 3-5 on the season, while George Mason dipped to 4-2, dropping its first decision in regulation.

The Patriots led 6-5 with 10:16 on the clock in the first on Lindsey Tangeman's first goal of the day, but Campbell wrapped four goals around the half, including two before the end of the half by Placek and Kayla Reilly to take a 9-6 lead.

George Mason clipped the Campbell lead to 9-8 at the 24:12 mark on back to back free position scores from Hailey Johnson and Chachi Kelehan, but Campbell answered with three straight, capped off by a Sam Carey strike from Pazulski, making it a 12-8 CU lead with 15:40 to play.

Despite holding the Camels off the board until Placek's sixth goal of the day with 3:18 to go, Campbell limited the Patriots to just a pair of scores to take the 14-11 victory. Sydney Etheridge posted a pair of saves over that span, while George Mason turned the ball over three time.

The Patriots posted 17 turnovers in the loss, while Campbell was charged with a season-low 11 giveaways.

Etheridge notched seven saves in goal for the Camels, adding three ground balls.

Placek added an assist for Campbell for a game-high seven points, while Sarah Paul and Mackenzie Koeller each chipped in two goals. Julia Markey caused two GMU turnovers with two ground balls.

Warpinski paced George Mason with three goals. Kira Greer picked up three ground balls with a caused turnover. Melissa Semkiw gathered seven saves with a ground ball.

Campbell continues its home stand Saturday hosting Davidson, and Furman on Friday, March 23. The Camels open Big South play on March 31 at Gardner-Webb.
