BUIES CREEK, N.C. –
Melissa Placek's put-back with 1.6 seconds remaining lifted Campbell over Furman 13-12 Friday at Barker-Lane Stadium.
Campbell (4-6) led 12-10 with 10:07 remaining after
Ellie Allen's second score of the day, but a pair of Furman (1-7) goals in the final 4:35, including Isabelle Walsh's strike with 43 seconds on the clock, tied it up.
After a Campbell timeout, Placek's first attempt was saved, but the junior collected the deflection and batted in the game-winner with 1.6 on the clock.
The goal was Placek's third of the day, marking her sixth hat trick of the season and third straight. She added eight draw controls in the win.
The game featured six tie scores, including four in the second half. Campbell took the lead with 13:06 to go in the opening period as part of four straight goals to put the home team up 5-3.
The Camels' largest lead came when
Mackenzie Kolesar's second goal of the day put CU in front 8-5 at 25:42 in the second, but a pair of Abby Shields scores, followed by another from Hannah Feinberg knotted the contest.
Koeller also netted a hat trick for the Camels, while Allen, Kolesar and
Sarah Paul added two goals each for the Camels.
Kayla Reilly posted a goal and three assists, while Kolesar tacked on a pair of helpers, notching a season-best four points for the freshman.
Sydney Etheridge gathered a season-high 13 saves with a ground ball.
Megan Reilly collected two ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Shields paced Furman with seven points on a game-high five goals and two assists. Walsh and Feinberg added two scores each for the Paladins, with goalie Maggie Friel recording 14 saves.
Furman converted just two of its 10 free position shots, while Campbell owned the edge in ground balls (10-6) and draw controls (16-11).
Campbell begins Big South play at Gardner-Webb on March 31 before hosting High Point on April 4.
