Camels top Radford 6-1

Campbell has now won eight of its last nine matches

Radford, Va. ­- Dustin Werner picked up his eighth straight win as Campbell defeated Radford 6-1 Thursday morning at the Radford University Tennis Courts.

Werner's eighth consecutive singles victory came at No. 3 where he clinched the match for Campbell (11-5, 4-1 Big South) with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Matko Varga. The German now holds a perfect 5-0 record in Big South play and is a perfect 7-0 at No. 3 to go along with a 10-3 overall mark. With his win at No. 3, Werner remains atop the conference at his respective court.

Campbell led off Thursday's action by sweeping doubles play. Jonathan O'Neal and Gerard Sola paired for their seventh straight victory with a 6-2 win at No. 2 over Carlos Salas and Matko Varga. The duo now sits at 8-6 overall for the season including a 4-1 mark in conference play. At No. 2, the pair now ranks second in conference at the court with a 7-3 record.

Sola also remained at the top of the Big South rankings at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Carlos Salas. The Spaniard has now won seven of his last nine matches and sports a 4-2 mark at No. 5 to lead the conference. With Thursday's win, Sola jumped above .500 in conference action and now sits at 3-2.

Ted Williams moved into third place in the conference rankings at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-2 two set win over Robin Calais to open singles play. The Australian now holds a 6-4 overall mark and a 3-2 record in Big South play. Williams has now won four of his last six appearances with five out of the six being played at No. 6.

Lukas Schaefer continued the Camels' momentum with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 over Michiel Meekers for the senior's second consecutive win. The German now sports a 7-4 overall record and a 6-3 mark at No. 4. Before Thursday's match, Meekers ranked second in the Big South at No. 4. With Lukas' win, he has now moved into third place just behind Meekers who also sat second overall in the conference before Thursday.

Lorenz Schwab's matchup against Alexandros Caldwell featured the most competitive matchup of the day with two sets being forced into a tie-breaker. Schwab claimed the match 7-6 (10-8), 4-6, 1-0 (10-7). Caldwell entered the match with just one loss at No. 2 and ranked first in the conference at No. 2 and third overall. Schwab now holds a 4-1 mark in conference play.

In doubles, Lorenz Schwab and Dustin Werner paired to clinch the doubles point for the Camels with a 6-2 win over Alexandros Caldwell and Rodrigo Magalhaes at No. 1. With the win, the pair now holds an impressive 8-2 overall mark and a 4-1 record in conference action. The duo remains second in the conference at No. 1 behind Asheville's Olly Cull and Henry Patten who sport a perfect 9-0 mark. Campbell travels to UNC Asheville on Saturday, April 7.

Lukas Schaefer and Louis Monterosso completed the doubles sweep with a 7-5 win over Robin Calais and Michiel Meekers at No. 3. The pair remains in second at No. 3 with a 5-2 record and have won two consecutive matches.

Campbell takes a week-long break before traveling west for three matches in as many days. Campbell opens the slate against Appalachian State in Boone on Friday, April 6. The Camels then head to Asheville to take on the Bulldogs on Saturday before they close out the three day stretch against Tennessee Tech on Sunday in Cullowhee, N.C.
