BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Fighting Camels dropped their first conference loss of the season as UNC Asheville defeated Campbell 20-7 Friday night at Greenwood Baseball Field.
Asheville's Eric Whitecavage (2-1) earned the win, tossing 2.2 innings of relief with one earned run. Jordan Fulbright pitched the final 5.0 innings to earn his first save of the year.
Wes Noble (3-4) took the loss as he was credited with three earned runs in the top of the first.
Tyler Anshaw (3-for-4, 2 2B, 3B, 3 RBI) posted three extra-base hits to lead the Camels offensively.
Bryce Myers (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBI) drove in two runs with his fifth homer of the season, while
Matthew Barefoot (1-for-2, 2 RBI) also notched a multi-RBI performance.
Kole Harris (1-for-5, 4 RBI) capped off a seven-run fourth for the Bulldogs with a three-run homer. Tyler Serricchio (2-for-5, 4 RBI) also plated four runs for UNC Asheville with two singles and an RBI walk.
Trailing 6-0 after the first, the Camels put up five runs in the top of the second to pull within one. Myers drew a bases-loaded walk, then Anshaw cleared the bases with a double to deep center. Barefoot knocked an RBI single to score Anshaw and cut the lead to 6-5.
Myers cranked a solo shot to left field in the top of the fourth, good for the fifth home run of his senior campaign. Campbell scored its seventh run in the top of the sixth on a sac fly from Barefoot.
