Camels drop game one to Tribe 4-2

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Camels were held to five hits on the day as William & Mary defeated Campbell 4-2 Friday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium.

Tribe lefty Bodie Sheehan (1-1) gave up two runs over 7.0 innings on the way to his first win of the season. The junior from Cumming, Ga. collected four strikeouts and walked just one Camel batter.

Campbell right-hander Wes Noble (1-2) took the loss, surrendering four runs on six hits over 5.0 innings pitched.

Wade Strain picked up the save, as the sophomore righty held the Camels scoreless in the bottom of the ninth.

Christian Jones (2-for-4, 2 RBI) drove in Campbell's only runs of the day with a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth, while Luis Gimenez (1-for-4), Tyler Anshaw (1-for-3) and Zach Minnick (1-for-4) each collected a single for the Camels. Gimenez has posted at least one hit in each of the past seven games, which ties Matthew Barefoot for the longest hit streak by a Camel this season.

Redshirt senior Harry Thomas pitched the final 4.0 innings for the Camels, allowing no runs on two hits and collecting two strikeouts. The reliever lowered his ERA to a 0.60 for the season with his scoreless Friday outing.

William & Mary (5-10) got on the board first with three runs on four hits in the top of the 5th. Owen Socher (1-for-4) knocked a two-RBI single to right field, and on the next at-bat, Nick Butts (1-for-4) singled through the left side to score one more.

The Tribe took a 4-0 lead on another RBI single in the sixth, but the Camels cut the lead to two as Jones cranked his third home run of the season. With Gimenez on third, the Jacksonville, Fla. native sent a 2-2 pitch over the left field wall to make it 4-2. That score would hold for the rest of the game as the Camels went hitless over the final three frames.

Campbell (4-9) will play two games against the Tribe in a Saturday doubleheader, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Jim Perry Stadium. For the most up-to-date information on Campbell baseball, follow @GoCamelsBSB on Twitter.
