Lacrosse falls on the road at Winthrop 16-9

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Katherine Judge posted a game-high five goals to lead Winthrop over visiting Campbell 16-9 in Big South action Wednesday at Eagle Field.

Winthrop claimed its 10th consecutive win to move to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in Big South play, while Campbell fell to 6-8 on the year and 2-1 in conference games.

Judge converted five of her seven shot attempts on the day, adding six draw controls, five ground balls and three caused turnovers for the Eagles.

Kristen Shriver added six points on three goals and three assists for Winthrop, while Katie Clark punched in three more scores. Mackenzie Cunningham picked up five ground balls and caused three turnovers, while Alaina Girani made nine saves with three ground balls.

Melissa Placek and Mackenzie Koeller combined for seven of Campbell's nine goals. Placek collected four goals with seven draw controls and a caused turnover, while Koeller tallied three scores with two ground balls and a caused miscue. Ellie Allen and Morgan Hollenbeck added goals off the bench for the Camels.

Kayla Reilly, who became Campbell's all-time assists leader last week, dished out four helpers, adding four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Already Campbell's career ground balls leader, Megan Reilly picked up two more against the Eagles. The senior also tied CU's all-time caused turnovers mark, notching the 59th of her career to knot Erin O'Hara (2014-17).

Trailing 8-2, Campbell scored the final two goals of the opening half to cut the Winthrop lead to 8-4. The Camels trimmed the Eagle advantage to three at 11-8 with 18:27 to play on Hollenbeck's score, but Winthrop closed the game on a 5-1 run.

Campbell owned a 14-12 edge in draw controls, but committed 19 turnovers, compared to 15 for WU.

Campbell will round out the regular season with three-straight at home, beginning with Radford April 14. CU will also host Longwood on April 18 and Liberty on April 21. The 2018 Big South Championships begin April 28.
