Camels hold off Radford 17-12

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell used a late 5-1 run to fend off Radford 17-12 Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium.

Campbell improved to 7-8 overall and 3-2 in Big South play, while Radford dipped to 5-9 on the season and 2-3 in conference games.

The Highlanders chipped Campbell's six goal lead to one with a 6-1 second half flurry, bringing the score to 12-11 on Emma Rogers' tally with 11:37 on the clock.

Melissa Placek broke the run, and a 12 minute Campbell scoring drought at the 8:12 mark, converting the feed from Annie Pazulski. The goal sparked a 5-1 CU barrage to end the game, capped off by Kayla Reilly's strike in the final minute.

Reilly paced Campbell with eight points on the day, dishing out six assists with two goals, while Mackenzie Koeller scored a game-high six goals. Placek collected five goals for her eighth straight hat trick, while Annie Pazulski registered three assists and a goal for the Camels.

Mackenzie Kolesar recorded three points off the bench with two goals and an assist.

On the defensive end, Amanda Chasin matched a Campbell season-best with six ground balls while forcing four turnovers. Sydney Etheridge smothered 10 saves with three ground balls in goal.

Megan Reilly tacked on a caused turnover, the 60th of her Campbell career, setting a new program record for the senior and passing Erin O'Hara's (2014-17) mark.

Juliette Ruland led Radford with four goals, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Adrian Rius also collected four points with three goals and an assist, while Lindsey Carroll tallied two scores and an assist. Shae Swindle gathered four ground balls with three caused turnovers, and Hannah Rosen notched 12 saves.

Campbell took the edge in draw controls 19-12, with 10 coming from Sam Carey. The Camels also won the turnover battle, with 21 Highlander miscues, compared to 17 for CU.

CU continues its home stand with Longwood on Wednesday, April 18 and Liberty in the regular season finale on Saturday, April 21. The 2018 Big South Championship begins Saturday, April 28.
