BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Dustin Werner clinched and won his 11
th straight singles matchup as Campbell defeated Liberty 5-2 to close out the regular season Thursday afternoon at the Nisbet Tennis Center.
Campbell (14-5, 6-1 Big South) claimed the doubles point and the first two singles matchups before
Dustin Werner clinched the match with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 win at No. 3. The win marked his 11
th straight and improved his conference record to a perfect 7-0. On the season, the German holds a 13-3 record and is a perfect 10-0 mark at No. 3 to lead the Big South Conference.
Senior
Lorenz Schwab and Werner paired to claim the first doubles win of the day with a 6-1 decision over Alex Poynter and Diego Castano at No. 1.
Seniors
Gerard Sola and
Jonathan O'Neal clinched the doubles point and won their ninth matchup of the season with a 6-4 win over Chase Burton and Sam Matheson at No. 2.
Louis Monterosso and Senior
Lukas Schaefer led 4-3 at No. 3 but the court did not finish after the doubles point was clinched for the Camels.
Ted Williams opened singles play with a 6-3, 6-1 two set victory over Diego Castano at No. 6 to put the Camels up 2-0. Williams now holds a 7-6 record on the season including a 4-3 mark in conference play.
Lukas Schaefer ended his career at the Nisbet Tennis Center with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Vince Salas at No. 4 to give Campbell the 3-0 lead. Schaefer's win was his fifth straight. He now holds a 10-4 overall mark including a 9-3 record at No. 4.
Gerard Sola closed out the day with a 5-7, 7-5, 10-6 win over Alex Poynter at No. 5. The win marked his fifth straight and improved his record to 11-7 on the season including a 5-2 mark in conference play.
