BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Two Camels extended their singles win streaks and
Ted Williams clinched at No. 6 as Campbell defeated UNC Asheville 4-1 in the quarterfinals of the Big South Men's Tennis Championship Monday in Rock Hill, S.C.
Campbell led 3-1 before the Melbourne, Australia native picked up a 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 win at No. 6 to send the Camels to the next round.
Campbell opened play by clinching the doubles point behind wins from doubles pair
Louis Monterosso and
Lukas Schaefer as well as
Dustin Werner and
Lorenz Schwab. Monterosso and Schaefer opened doubles play with a 6-0 win over James Massie and Finlay McFayden at No. 3. The win marked their fifth straight!
Dustin Werner and
Lorenz Schwab clinched the doubles point, 6-3, at No. 1 over Henry Patten and Olly Cull. The Big South First Team All-Conference Doubles duo notched their 10
th doubles win of the season and improved their overall mark to 10-4 on the year.
The Big South Player of the Year, Henry Patten, won at No. 1 in two sets to even the match at 1-1 before Campbell reeled off the next three straight points for the win.
Dustin Werner picked up his 12
th straight win with a 6-3, 6-4 two set victory over Oli Nolan. The win marked the junior's 14
th of the season.
Gerard Sola picked up the Camels third point of the day with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Edward Colclough at No. 5. The win marked his sixth straight and improved his overall record to 12-7 on the year.
Williams' clincher at No. 6 improved his overall mark to 8-6 on the season and marked the freshman's second win in a row.
Campbell will now face the winner of the Gardner-Webb vs Presbyterian match tomorrow. Campbell defeated both teams in the regular season and will look to do the same and make it to the conference championship match once again.
