Camels run past Longwood 20-8

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Mackenzie Koeller tallied a career-high eight goals, leading Campbell over visiting Longwood 20-8 in Big South action Wednesday at Barker-Lane Stadium.

Campbell (8-8, 4-2 Big South) used an 11-0 run to close the first half, taking a 12-2 lead into the break, and held on for the 12-goal victory over the Lancers (7-9, 2-4 Big South).

The Camels dominated draw controls 23-6, including a 13-2 edge in the first half, and owned a 43-16 advantage in shots on the day.

Koeller scored six times in the first half alone, notching Campbell's first two goals of the game before finding the back of the net in four of CU's final six goals of the stanza, including three straight (11:36, 9:16, 2:53).

A senior from Cary, N.C., Koeller scored her 100th career goal in the contest, becoming the fifth Camel all-time to hit the mark, and the third active (Kayla Reilly, Melissa Placek).

Kayla Reilly collected six points on three goals and three assists, while Melissa Placek, Sam Carey and Sarah Paul added two scores each for the Camels.

Placek controlled 13 draws to match a school record, previously set by Loren Day at Robert Morris in 2015.

Megan Reilly picked up two ground balls and caused two turnovers, while Julia Markey collected three ground balls and forced a turnover. Sydney Etheridge made four saves, collecting two ground balls.

Kaitlin Luccarelli and Molly Barkman posted two goals each for the Lancers, while Riley Dolan registered a team-high four points on three assists and a score. Corri Calandra added four ground balls, while Hollyn Royster caused three turnovers with two ground balls.

The Camels will close out the regular season on Saturday, April 21, hosting Liberty. Campbell's four seniors, Mackenzie Koeller, Carter Koontz, Kayla Reilly and Megan Reilly will be honored prior to the game.
