Both teams opened up regular season play on Friday, August 17. Campbell (1-0) defeated South Carolina State 4-1 to kick off the year.
Alexa Genas netted two goals while
Kylee Arno and
Shannon Wratchford both added one goal each for the Camels. Wratchford's goal highlighted the night as
Emma Bushee played the ball into the box from the right side to find
Shannon Wratchford who dove and headed the ball into the back of the net for the final score of the night.
Campbell outshot the Bulldogs sixteen to four and were on frame six times resulting in four goals. Three of Campbell's four goals came by way of an assist on the night.
Appalachian State (0-1) opened the season with a 4-0 loss to defending Big South Conference member High Point. The Panthers registered just one goal in the first half but reeled off three goals in the closing period to blank the Mountaineers.
App State recorded nine shots on the night with four on goal while High Point was able to fire off 13 shots with just five on target. HPU kept the ball in their half for a majority of the time however and created 10 corner kick opportunities compared to App State's three.
After traveling to Boone, Campbell takes a week break before hosting former Big South Conference participant Liberty on Sunday, August 26 at 1:00 p.m.
