Barefoot named Top 150 prospect by D1Baseball

BUIES CREEK, N.C. — Redshirt-junior Matthew Barefoot, the reigning Big South Conference and Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) batting champion, has been named the No. 128 professional baseball prospect in D1Baseball's 2019 Top 150 Prospects list, as announced on Thursday.

Barefoot claimed the Big South batting crown with a .364 average and also led the conference in hits (79), doubles (18), steals (33) and on-base percentage (.484). He also ranked sixth in the nation with 23 hit-by-pitches.

Over the summer, Barefoot played in the CCBL for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks and was crowned the league's batting champion with a clip of .379, besting players from South Carolina, Virginia, Vanderbilt, among others. Barefoot was also honored as the Cape Cod MVP, as he finished the league leader in hits (53) and on-base percentage (.474).

A 2018 First Team All-Big South selection, Barefoot was also named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region Second Team and the NCCSIA All-State First Team.

The Dunn, N.C., native dominated postseason play, hitting .517 across the Big South Tournament and the NCAA Athens Regional. His performance in the Big South Tournament earned him the tournament MVP, which included a 3-for-4 outing with three doubles in the Big South Championship game against High Point. In the regional opener at No. 8 Georgia, he batted 3-for-5 with three RBI and a two-run home run.

Campbell baseball is coming off its third appearance in the NCAA Tournament as the Camels swept the Big South regular season and tournament titles for the first time in program history. The Camels had eight all-conference honorees, the most since 2013, and racked up a program-record 21 wins in conference play.
