BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell freshman
Annie Sanchez won the 200 freestyle and figured into a victorious 200 free relay to highlight the Fighting Camels swimming team's season-opening meet against Liberty Saturday.
Â
The Flames, however, carried the day, 159-98.
Â
Sanchez struck first in the 200 free, turning in a time of 1:53.82, which bested the second-place finisher, Liberty's Elizabeth Masnusson, by nearly two seconds.
Â
Sanchez carried that momentum into the 200 free relay, when she teamed with
Megan Everritt,
Hannah Kendall and
Sarah Wilson to compile a winning time of 1:37.43.
Â
With a swim of 4:47.47, Senior
Karah Sizemore posted the third Camels win of the day in the 400 IM.
Â
Liberty got out to quick lead, winning the day's first three events while sprinting out to a 41-19 lead. In total, the Flames racked up wins in 11 events.
Â
Campbell returns to action on Oct. 5 when it travels to Gardner-Webb for its 2018-19 road opener.
