Campbell (1-4) opened the season with a 4-1 win over South Carolina State on August 17 to open the season but the Camels have been on a four-game skid since.
Last week Campbell traveled to Western Carolina where they fell to the Catamounts 1-0 in overtime on Friday, August 31. Campbell keeper,
Erin Scott, held WCU scoreless over the full 90 minutes of regulation before the Catamounts netted the golden goal in the 99
th minute. The senior from Dallas, TX recorded five saves over the extended match to total six total saves alongside one team save for the Camels.
Most recently, Campbell dropped a 2-0 decision to Furman in Greenville, S.C. on Sunday.
Erin Scott was able to pick up seven saves to total 12 on the week and 25 for the season.
Alexa Genas, the Big South Preseason Attacking Player of the Year, leads the Camels in scoring with two goals on the year followed by one apiece from
Kylee Arno and
Shannon Wratchford.
ECU (3-1-2) is coming off its first loss of the season on Sunday at George Mason. The Pirates dropped a 2-1 match where the Pirates struck first with a goal from Jenna Dages in the 13
th minute but the Patriots closed out the match with two unanswered goals for the victory.
"ECU is having a very good year, they've had some good results. They're organized, they have some special new players, and they do a good job of breaking teams down," said head coach
Samar Azem.
The Pirates' unblemished start over the first five games marks just the second time in program history the club has not suffered a loss over the first five matches. Junior Jenna Dages has been a large part of the Pirates' success with a team leading four goals and nine points over six matches.
Azem continued, "On the same note, we've been learning against some touch competition on the road. Every opponent has allowed us to assess areas we want to better on and off the ball and it's allowing us to get better. Closing out our non-conference road stretch against an opponent like ECU and VMI on Sunday is a great opportunity for us."
Senior Courtney Cash paces right behind Dages with three goals on the season to go along with seven points on the year.
"We've had a good week of training and I'm excited to see how we translate that in another good game," Azem closed.
Following Thursday's match, Campbell returns home on Sunday, September 9 to host former Big South opponent VMI. The Keydets currently sit 4-0 overall and sport a 1-0 record on the road this season. VMI travels to Big South member UNC Asheville on Friday before heading to Buies Creek for Sunday's matchup. You can follow Sunday's match through live stats or listen to Zach Berly on the call.
