Carter, Barber lead CU to 60-58 win at CSU

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Behind a 10-point fourth-quarter performance from Lauren Carter and 11 total points from Hayley Barber, Campbell women's hoops came back to defeat Charleston Southern, 60-58, on Thursday night inside the Buc Dome.

With the win, Campbell picked up its 10th victory of the year (10-4 overall), while moving to 2-1 in conference play. The Buccaneers fell to 3-11 and 0-3 in Big South action.

Carter shot 6-of-9 from the floor, finishing in double-figures (12) for the fifth time this season. Barber's double-digit performance is her first since March 4, 2017, when she scored 13 her freshman season at Liberty. She went to the free-throw line 11 times, sinking nine.

Taya Bolden led CU in rebounding for the fifth consecutive game, pulling down 12 boards; she also added five points. Both Ashlyn Hampton and Kyra Davis finished with nine points and four rebounds. Shy Tuelle scored eight, knocking down 2-of-4 from three.

The Camels sent back eight CSU shots, led by two blocks each by Barber and Bolden.

CSU's Ke'Asia Jackson led all scorers with 19 points, while Weknyne Dumorne led the Bucs with 10 rebounds.

The game featured nine ties and 11 lead changes. The score was knotted at 31 at the half; however, Charleston Southern went on a 6-0 run in the third quarter to go ahead 43-36 with 1:34 to go, which was Campbell's largest deficit of the game. Hampton scored a lay-in at the 39-second mark to trim the CSU lead to five heading into the final period.

Carter and Barber combined to score 14 of Campbell's 22 points in the fourth quarter, which had five lead changes and two ties. Campbell was able to pull away in the final minute as Barber and Bolden combined to make 3-of-4 at the charity stripe.

Campbell had its best shooting performances in the first and fourth quarters, shooting 67 percent (8-12) and 54 percent (7-13), respectively. In the final period, the Camels held CSU to 27-percent shooting (6-22).

Both sides finished with 42 rebounds. CSU held the advantage in paint points (30-24), points off turnovers (17-9), second-chance points (9-2) and fast break points (14-2). The Camels allowed just one CSU three-pointer, while sinking five of their own, while the Camel bench outscored the Buccaneer bench, 23-14.

Campbell will stay on the road to play its third game in five days, traveling to Asheville, N.C., to face UNC Asheville on Saturday at 2 p.m.
