FARMVILLE, Va. –– Hayley Barber poured in a career-high 17 points and the Camels knocked down 10 three pointer's to defeat Longwood 66-60 on Tuesday night.
Barber went 4-for-8 from the field, including a 3-for-5 effort beyond the arc; she knocked 6-of-10 attempts at the free-throw line. Combined with Barber's three-point performance, Shy Tuelle (3-for-6) and Caroline Bowns (4-for-6) shot 56 percent (10-for-18) from three-point range.
Bowns and Tuelle joined Barber in double-digits, scoring 12 and 10 points, respectively. Taya Bolden and Kyra Davis added eight points apiece; Bolden also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
Tuelle's five assists led all players, which was good for a new career best for the rookie.
To open the game, Tuelle knocked down back-to-back three's, earning Campbell an early 6-4 lead; however, Longwood closed out the first period on a 9-2 run to head into the first break with a 13-8 advantage.
Trailing 22-21 with 1:53 remaining in the second quarter, Bowns also hit back-to-back trifecta's, earning CU the 27-24 lead at the half.
Campbell opened the third quarter on a 14-1 run, earning its largest lead of 16 (41-25) at the 7:03 mark, but, Longwood again closed out a period on an impressive run, this time a 20-7 spurt.
The Lancers held a 54-52 advantage with 3:55 remaining, but Bowns responded on CU's next possession with her fourth three-pointer to regain the lead, 55-54. CU did not concede the lead for the remainder of the game, pulling away for the 66-60 win.
Campbell improved to 12-8 overall with the win and 4-5 in Big South play, while Longwood dropped its 15th-straight game to fall to 1-17 and 0-8 in conference action.
CU shot 48 percent from three (10-for-21), good for its best in conference play and second-best performance from long range this season (50 percent at Boston College).
The Camels will take a week-long break from competition before hosting new Big South member USC Upstate on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m.
