WILMINGTON, N.C. — Campbell University swimming opened the 2019 portion of its schedule by traveling to UNCW on Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 172-122. The Camels drop to 5-3 in dual competition.
UNCW went away with two dual meet victories on the day, also defeating UNC Asheville, 216-81.
The Camels placed first in five individual events and one relay: Annie Sanchez won the 200 free (1:53.47), Julia Sherlock won the 100 back (58.53) and 200 back (2:08.23), Maddie Baiotto won both the 200 fly (2:05.97) and the 100 fly (56.84), and CU topped the 200-medley relay (1:46.58).
The team of Megan Everritt, Taylor McMinn, Baiotto and Sarah Wilson collectively swam a 1:46.58 to place first in the 200-medley relay.
Wilson and Hannah Kendall placed second and third in the 50 free, swimming times of 24.27 and 24.34, respectively. Sanchez posted a time of 52.83 in the 100 free to place third, while Megan Shoemaker swam the 1000 free in 10:49.64, also taking third.
Including Sherlock's first-place finish, the Camels went 1-2-3 in the 200 back: Kelsey Tunstall (2:09.19) and Karah Sizemore (2:09.77). Everritt joined Sherlock in the top-3 of the 100 back, swimming the event in 59.90 for third place.
In the breaststroke events, McMinn finished second in the 200 breast (2:26.02) and third in the 100 breast (1:07.24).
The team of Sanchez, Neringa Cerniauskaite, Kendall and Wilson closed out the day with a second-place finish in the 400-free relay (3:31.90).
Up next, CU travels to Old Dominion for a noon start in Norfolk, Va., on Jan. 12, before hosting North Florida on Jan. 19 for Senior Day at 11 a.m.
