Camels blank Wofford behind Jacquel double

CU wins 4th-straight

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Thibaut Jacquel scored twice and Campbell ran its win streak to four matches with a 2-0 victory over Wofford Tuesday at Snyder Field.

Samuel Lechuga registered his Big South Conference-leading sixth shutout of the year for the Camels (7-2-1), who have won seven of their last eight and improved to 2-2-1 on the road.

Jacquel gave the Camels the lead halfway through an opening period when Campbell out-shot the hosts 13-0.  His right-footed effort outside the box beat Wofford keeper Shane Berson and extended Jacquel's scoring streak to four matches.

The Camels nearly doubled the lead in the 42nd minute when Aigbekan Nosegbe dribbled into the box and smacked a left-footed shot off the junction of the left post and crossbar.

Jacquel then provided an insurance goal in the 58th minute from the penalty spot.  The junior forward leads the Big South in goals (9) and points (18) and has scored seven times in Campbell's four-match in streak.

Campbell outshot Wofford (2-6) by an 18-4 margin and took 12 corner kicks to just three for the hosts.  Lechuga did not face a shot until the 73rd minute and finished with two saves.

"I thought we came out with the right mentality to have a professional performance on the road," said Campbell head coach Dustin Fonder.  "We were strong on the attack, not as clinical in front of the goal as we'd like to be, but limited them to very little defensively."

The Campbell defense has allowed only two goals over the last 822 minutes and play and permitted just 22 shots on target over the last nine outings.

The Camels return to Big South action Saturday (7 p.m.) when they host USC Upstate.

"As soon as the final whistle blew tonight, we turned our minds back to conference play," said Fonder. "We're ready to get back home and prepare for a strong Upstate team."
