BUIES CREEK, N.C — Campbell University swimming won 10 events – eight individual and two relay – against UNC Asheville to help the Fighting Camels earn a 174-88 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association victory on Saturday afternoon inside the Johnson Aquatic Center.
Campbell opened the meet by winning the 400-medley relay as the team of Megan Everritt, Angelica Brown, Maddie Baiotto and Annie Sanchez collectively swam a time of 3:59.72. The B squad comprised of Julia Sherlock, Mary Grace Greco, Skyler DeWall, and Colleen Renshaw, took third place in 4:02.85, finishing just 0.13 seconds behind UNC Asheville's second-place team.
Sanchez picked up the victory in the 200 free in 1:55.99 before winning the 100 free in 52.72. Campbell went 1-2-3 in both of those events as Sarah Wilson finished second in both (200, 1:58.12; 100, 53.63), Erica Losey took third in the 200 free (1:59.35) and Renshaw earned third place in the 100 free (54.12). Wilson also won the 50 free in 24.46, while Renshaw swam a 24.51 to take second place.
Baiotto earned an individual win in the 100 fly with a time of 58.32, while Lauren Shoemaker also won a butterfly event, finishing first in the 200 fly (2:08.91); Baiotto took second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:09.69. Led by Baiotto, the Camels again finished 1-2-3 in the 100 fly; Sherlock took second in 59.69 with DeWall placed third in 59.96.
Campbell also earned a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 100 back with Everritt winning the event in 59.05 before Sherlock (59.13), Kamaria Mahone (59.47) and Kelsey Tunstall (1:00.48). Sherlock won the 200 back with a clip of 2:08.05 while Tunstall took second with a time of 2:09.01.
DeWall won the 100 breast with a time of 1:10.26; Brown finished third in 1:10.26. Brown also finished third in the 200 breast in 2:35.79, one spot ahead of Neringa Cerniauskaite's fourth-place finish of 2:36.33.
In the distance events, Megan Shoemaker took Campbell's top points as the senior finished second in the 1000 free (10:54.13) and third in the 500 free (5:19.88).
Campbell ended the meet with another win, taking top honors in the 200-free relay with a time of 1:37.41 swam by Sanchez, Renshaw, Baiotto and Wilson.
Next weekend, Campbell will travel to Greenville, N.C., for a quad-meet that features Lenoir-Rhyne, Catawba College and the host East Carolina Pirates. The meet between the four North Carolina swim programs is set to begin at 1 p.m. inside ECU's Minges Natatorium.
