LAST TIME OUT: Alexa Genas moved into the Big South Conference top-10 career scoring list and Campbell scored a season high five goals as Campbell defeated USC Upstate 5-0 Saturday night.
Just three minutes into the match, Genas opened the scoring line by burying a penalty kick to secure her spot in the Big South record books. Rookie Elyssa Nowowieski followed in the 21st minute by netting her second goal in as many games and her third of the season.
Three minutes later, fellow freshman Parker Ormsby scored her second goal of the season to extend the Campbell lead to 3-0 before she pushed the lead to 4-0 in 61st minute with her second goal of the day off the feed from Ashleigh Harris. Madi Thomsen capped off the night with a goal in the 87th minute for her first score of the season.
Senior keeper Natalya Marcove registered her first solo shut out of the season in just her second start of the year. Marcove registered four saves as a part of the blank sheet.
GENAS MOVES INTO BIG SOUTH TOP 10, NAMED ATTACKING POTW: Just three minutes into the match against Upstate, Genas opened the scoring line by burying a penalty kick to secure her spot in the Big South record books. Genas goal served as the 36th of her career and ties her in 10th place with Coastal Carolina's Bobbie Parsons (2002-2005). Genas currently has 38 goals scored and 8 shy of tying former Campbell forward Ashley Clark for the second most goals scored in program history. Genas currently ranks second in the Big South in shots // shots per game (35 // 3.50) and third in points (12), and goals (4). Her efforts resulted in her second Big South Attacking Player of the Week honor this season and her fifth overall weekly honor.
CAMELS TOP GARDNER-WEBB 3-2: Three separate Camels scored and Alexa Genas nailed the game winner as Campbell topped Gardner-Webb 3-2 Wednesday night at Eakes Athletics Complex.
Tied 2-2 in the 71st minute, Alexa Genas buried her fifth goal of the season and her third game winner after she drew a penalty kick on the foul from Emily Jonas.
Campbell keeper Natalya Marcove picked up the win in her first start since 2016 when she started all 20 matches. Over the full 90 minutes the senior tallied five saves.
Elyssa Nowowieski opened the scoring line in the 31st minute by taking the feed from Rosie O'Neal and firing the shot at goal which slipped through the keeper's hands.
Zona Kinnaman followed 11 minutes later by placing the header off the Amber Liston corner into the back of the net.
DONALD and Camels AMONG NATIONS LEADERS: Sophomore Jessica Donald's eight assists on the season ranks second in the nation among all Division I NCAA Soccer players while her 0.67 assist per game mark ranks seventh. The Tully, N.Y. native most recently dished out an assist at USC Upstate. Donald holds the top mark in assists in the league.
As a squad Campbell ranks sixth in the nation in both total assists (29) and assists per game (2.42) while ranking seventh in fouls committed per game (7.00), seventh in total points (85), eighth in points per game (7.08), 10th in total goals (28) and 11th in scoring offense (2.33)
