SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Led by Sarah Colla's 11 kills and Melody Paige's 10 kills, Campbell University volleyball ended its 2019 regular season with a three-set sweep of USC Upstate, securing the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Big South Championship.
With the victory, Campbell finished third in the Big South standings with a 9-5 conference record and a 15-12 overall mark. USC Upstate dropped to 7-19 overall and 4-10 against league opponents.
The Fighting Camels won sets one and two by a combined margin of 13 points, 50-37, winning the first set, 25-19, and the second, 25-18. Additionally, Campbell hit a combined .424 across the first two sets, including .500 in the second set.
Along with her 10 kills, Paige finished the day with no errors over 14 attacks for a season-high .714 hitting percentage. Colla committed just one error with a match-high 11 kills over 16 attacks for a .625 attacking mark. Lailah Green and Allena Heath had six kills apiece with Green adding nine digs.
Madee Miner dished out 19 assists and Emily Mitter added 15 assists; Mitter also recorded three service aces. The CU defense was led by Elyse Gross, who totaled 15 digs. Ananda Patterson finished with five assisted blocks.
USC Upstate's offense was paced by Emily Russell and Annalisa Mendoza, who recorded 10 kills and 26 assists, respectively. The Spartans hit just .106 across the entire match, committing 18 errors.
Campbell will be the No. 3 seed in the 2019 Big South Championship set to take place at Winthrop University next weekend, Friday through Sunday, Nov. 22-24. The Camels will face off against the sixth-seeded Charleston Southern Buccaneers in Friday's quarterfinal matchup at 7 p.m.
All quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be carried on ESPN+, while the championship contest will be available on ESPN3. The winner of the tournament will receive the Big South's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
