LYNCHBURG, Va. — Highlighted by a third-place finish by the 200-free relay squad, Campbell University women's swimming completed the first day of the TYR '85 Invite on Friday afternoon inside the Liberty Natatorium.
Annie Sanchez, Colleen Renshaw, Maddie Baiotto and Sarah Wilson combined to swim a season-best time of 1:33.37 in the 200-free relay finals, earning Campbell 60 points.
In the 50 free finals, Sanchez and Renshaw earned Campbell's highest points, taking eighth (23.68) and ninth place (23.70) in the A-finals for 25 and 24 points, respectively. Sanchez posted a personal-best time of 23.46 in the prelims, while Renshaw also made a new personal record, with a 23.66 clocking.
Baiotto, Wilson and Maddie Heggie rounded out Campbell's five student-athletes to qualify for the 50-free finals. Baiotto swam a 24.08 in the prelims before a 24.06 in the finals; Wilson went 23.80 in the prelims, with a 23.65 in the finals; and Heggie tied with Baiotto in the prelims with a 24.08 before posting a 24.14 mark in the finals.
Maggie Whitman and Erica Losey qualified for the 500 free finals as Whitman set a personal record in the prelims with a 5:08.08, while Losey added a 5:08.56 showing. Whitman bested her PR in the finals by swimming a 5:06.85 to place 23rd overall, with Losey taking 35th place in 5:08.74.
Mary Grace Greco swam Campbell's fastest 200 IM times, posting a 2:07.71 mark in the prelims (tied for 14th) before a 2:08.85 clocking in the finals (18th). Skyler DeWall's 200 IM mark of 2:09.34 in the prelims set a personal record for the sophomore, with fellow sophomore Drew Marshall finishing with a 2:10.37, also a personal best. Marshall improved upon her record in the finals, posting a time of 2:09.97.
Claire Davis posted a pair of personal-best marks in the preliminary rounds, swimming the 500 free in 5:34.68, before a 25.97 mark in the 50 free. Losey also earned a personal record in the 50 free, collecting a time of 24.89.
Campbell's 400-medley relay squad of Megan Everritt, Angelica Brown, Baiotto and Sanchez, collectively swam a 3:50.49, suitable for ninth place in the finals.
After the first day of the nine-team meet, the Camels own 270 points, beating out North Florida's 204.5 and St. Francis' 185, for seventh place. Navy leads with 662.5 points, followed by Duquesne (507) and Marshall (419.50).
The TYR '85 Invite continues Saturday at 10 a.m. with the preliminary heats. The finals competition will start at 6 p.m. On Sunday, the event's final day, the prelims will begin at 10 a.m., while the finals are set for a 6 p.m. start.
