BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Brianna Butler allowed just two runs on four hits over the full seven frames and Caroline Jacobson drove in three runs as Duke defeated Campbell 9-2 Wednesday night at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
Butler gave up just two runs – both earned – while striking out three and walking four over across 28 batters faced for Duke (3-2).
Jacobson (1-for-2, 3 RBI, 1 run) ripped a three run home run over the left field fence to break open the game and drive in three runs in the fifth. Kristina Foreman followed with a solo shot over the right center fence to solidify the four run inning for the Blue Devils.
Trailing 3-1 in the third,
Abby Perryman (1-for-2, 1 RBI) roped a two-out RBI double to left center field to bring in
Kynadi Tipler from first but the Blue Devils responded with their four run fifth inning.
Megan Richards registered the loss after giving up six runs, all of which were earned, on seven hits over four and a third innings of work.
Hannah Jones plated the only other Campbell (1-5) run of the night when she took home after a strikeout at the plate.
Haley Hutchins came down the stretch for the Camels going two and two-thirds innings with just one run - unearned - among two hits.
Campbell returns to action this weekend at the Gamecock Invitational which will feature two games on Saturday – South Carolina at 3:00, St. John's at 5:30 – and a pair of games on Sunday – Ohio at 10:00 am, Charlotte at 5:30.
