Richmond downs Camels 15-8

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Mia Castagnero and Sam Geiersbach tallied five points apiece to lead visiting Richmond over Campbell 15-8 Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium.

The Spiders moved to 1-0 on the year, while Campbell dropped to 0-2.

Castagnero scored four times and tacked on an assist, while Geiersbach notched three goals and assisted on a pair to pace the Spiders in their season opener. Geiersbach added five ground balls and caused two turnovers in the win.

Richmond wrapped an 8-2 run around the half after Campbell took a 2-1 lead on Morgan Hollenbeck's score (19:05, first), and added a five goal spurt in the second frame to take the win. Campbell was charged with 24 turnovers on the day, including 13 in the first half.

Marissa Brown and Katie Sciandra each posted four points on three goals and an assist for UR, while Reagan Williams also scored twice. Julie Ball added four ground balls and caused two turnovers, with Megan Gianforte posting three ground balls and collecting 10 saves.

Annie Pazulski led Campbell with a goal and two assists, adding two ground balls. The senior was one of four Camels to force two turnovers on the day, joined by Kennedy Boyle, Amanda Chasin and Lexie Patton.

Morgan Hollenbeck netted two goals for CU, while Laura Will scored once and tacked on a helper for the Camels. Sarah Paul also registered a goal and an assist, chipping in a ground ball and a caused turnover.

Chasin picked up three ground balls, while Patton recorded three ground balls to go along with 13 saves in goal.

The Spiders owned a 34-20 advantage in total shots and a 26-17 edge in ground balls. Campbell, meanwhile, won the draw control battle, 15-10.

The Camels will make their road debut next Wednesday, February 20 at former Big South rival Coastal Carolina, returning to Barker-Lane Stadium on Saturday, February 23, hosting Wofford.
