HIGH POINT, N.C. – Brandonn Kamga scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead High Point to a 57-56 comeback win over Campbell Thursday night at the Millis Center.
Jahaad Proctor added 16 points for the Panthers (13-10, 6-3), who trailed by nine (45-36) with 11:49 left before rallying to remain unbeaten at home (5-0) in Big South play.
Chris Clemons led Campbell (13-10, 6-3) with 23 points, including 12-of-13 from the line, but his deep 3-pointer missed at the horn.
Andrew Eudy added 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting and eight boards for the Camels, who shot just 36.5 percent for the game.
Campbell entered the night ranked 14th in the nation in 3-point shots made per game (10.2), but hit only 4-of-26 (.154) beyond the arc in the team's lowest scoring effort of the season.
The nation's leading scorer (29.2), Clemons was held to 5-of-19 shooting, but blocked a career-high 3 shots and made 4 steals. He moved by Elvin Hayes of Houston (2884 points from 1965-68) into 12th place on the NCAA Division I all-time scoring list and now has 2898 points in 120 games.
Campbell led 30-21 at halftime and by nine (45-36) after
Isaac Chatman made the second of two free throws with 11:49 to go. However, Rob Peterson hit a wing 3 and Curtis Holland connected from long range on the next possession to cut the gap to 45-42 with 9:42 remaining.
Clemons' drive to the bucket pushed the margin to 49-44 with 8:15 to play, but the Camels went without a field goal over the next 4:55. After HPU went in front 54-52 on Proctor's foul shots with 2:39 to go, Eudy scored on a backdoor pass from Chatman to knot the game with 2:20 to play.
Kamga's pullup triple at the end of the shot clock gave High Point a 57-54 cushion with 1:21 to go. Clemons made a pair of foul shots with 49 seconds to go, and the Camels earned a defensive stop, but a second Clemons buzzer-beater in eight days did not fall.
High Point finished 19-of-46 from the floor (.413), made 7-of-20 threes (.350) and 12-of-14 (.857) from the line and held a 35-26 edge on the boards.
The Camels, who lost for just the second time in the last seven games, return to action Saturday at home in a 4:30 p.m. tip against USC Upstate.
