LAKE CHARLES, LA - Campbell used a sixth inning surge against No. 14 Arkansas but their comeback came up short as the Camels dropped their two opening day games to Lipscomb and Arkansas.
Lipscomb (1-0) tabbed an 8-0 win in six inning to start the day before Arkansas 1-0 claimed a 7-3 win over Campbell (0-2).

Mandy Jordan and Megan Gray combined to toss six scoreless innings as Lipscomb topped Campbell 8-0 in the season opener.
Jordan hurled four perfect innings allowing no base runners and striking out 10 of 12 Campbell batters. Her outing secured her first win of the season (1-0). Gray came in and threw 2.0 innings and allowed just one hit while striking out four.
Kayla Green posted a two RBI outing with two hits in three at bats to pair with one run scored.
Lipscomb (1-0) used a four run second inning to jump out to an early lead. Hannah Devault sent a one out single through the left side to start the threat. Followed by a hit by pitch, Khayla Green doubled to left center to drive in Devault. Destinee Brewer grounded out to drive in Ward from third to push the lead to 2-0. An error allowed Abby Davis to reach base and brought in another run followed by a stolen base. A RBI single drove in Davis before a pop up ended the frame.
Hannah Jones went 1-2 during the contest and struck the Camels sole base knock of the game in the fifth inning when she sent a line drive single to center field for Campbell (0-1).
The Bisons were able to tack on a two run third inning and a pair of one run additions in the fourth and sixth to cap off the game.
Haley Hutchins (0-1) registered the loss after tossing 4.1 innings. The senior surrendered just three earned runs – seven total – across nine hits.
Marissa Green came entered the game in relief to throw 1.0 inning where she surrendered just one hit and one run. The freshman entered in the fifth inning with a runner on second before she forced a pop out and recorded her sole punch out of the game to end the frame.
Campbell vs Arkansas
Danielle Gibson drove in two runs on two hits and scored two more to help Arkansas fend off a late Campbell surge. First baseman Ashley Diaz also tabbed six hits and drove in three runs for Arkansas.
Arkansas posted a two-run first inning before following with a four-run second frame. An error and a pair of walks set up a fielder choice which drove in two Razorback runners. Diaz ripped a two out double to right center to drive in the final two runs of the inning.
Autumn Storms (1-0) tossed 7.0 innings and allowed three runs, all in the sixth inning, across eight hits to pick up the win.
Megan Richards answered a shaky first two innings with three scoreless frames. The junior was dealt the loss after tossing 5.0 innings where she allowed three earned runs – six total – over six hits.
Lexy Head relieved the effort and allowed just one run on one hit with one punch out over two innings pitched.
Claudia Ware dropped in two hits and drove in one run on the afternoon while
Kayla Fredendall drove in one and scored herself.
Campbell plated three runs in the sixth which started with an
Avery Wheatley one out walk and a
Morgan Rios single up the middle which put runners on second and third.
Christa Hall then grounded out to drive in Wheatley for the first run of the inning. Pinch hitter
Kayla Fredendall doubled to right center to drive in
Danielle Northrup who pinch ran for Rios.
After
Bri Bryant reached on an error and moved over Fredendall, Claudia singled through the right side to drive in Fredendall.
Campbell placed runners on first and second in the bottom half of the final frame but a one out 6-4-3 ground ball double play ended the threat

Campbell returns to action against tomorrow starting at 10:00 am (CST) against Samford followed by a matchup with host school McNeese State at 5:30 pm (CST).
