HIGH POINT, N.C. –
Caroline Bowns and
Shy Tuelle combined for 41 points to lead Campbell over Hampton, 85-63 in the Big South Championship quarterfinal round Thursday at the Millis Center.
The Camels, seeded sixth in the tournament, hit the 20-win mark for the second time in three seasons, moving to 20-11 on the season, while third seeded Hampton drops to 16-14.
CU's 85 points is the most in a conference tournament game since falling to Jacksonville State in the 1999 TAAC (Atlantic Sun) Championship Game, 93-89 in overtime.
Campbell led by as many as 32 in the win, shooting 53 percent from the floor (31-for-58) and 57 percent (13-for-23) from distance, landing five hitting double figures.
Tuelle posted a season-best 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting and 4-of-8 from three, adding two steals, while Bowns poured in a season-high 20, hitting 7-of-8 shots and 5-of-6 triples. The senior added five boards, three assists, two blocks and a steal.
Campbell's 13 threes are the second most for the squad this season and two off the school single-game record.
Lauren Carter posted 13 points with six rebounds, while
Kyra Davis and
Luana Serranho added 10 points each.
Taya Bolden tacked on seven points and seven rebounds for the Camels.
Kayla Lupoe paced the Pirates with 19 points, four boards and three blocks. Laren VanArsdale posted 11 points with three assists, but committed five turnovers, while Ashley Bates registered 10 points with four assists and three steals.
Campbell advances to Friday night's Big South Championship semifinal, taking on seventh seed Charleston Southern at 8 p.m. inside the Millis Center.
