CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Jamie Ortega and Katie Hoeg combined for 13 points, pushing No. 3 North Carolina over visiting Campbell 16-5 Tuesday at UNC Lacrosse and Soccer Stadium.
The nationally ranked Tar Heels move to 8-1 on the season, while Campbell dips to 3-5.
Ortega posted four goals knocking through 2-of-4 free position attempts with two assists and four ground balls, while Hoeg scored three times with four helpers.
Taylor McDaniels and Kara Klages also recorded a pair of scores, while Ally Mastroianni assisted on two goals. Olivia Ferrucci and Tayler Warehime also gathered a goal and an assist each. Scottie Rose Grown picked up three ground balls, and was one of eight Tar Heels to cause a turnover. Taylor Moreno played the first half in goal, making five saves with a ground ball.
Ellie Allen and
Melissa Placek both notched two goals to lead the Camels. Placek tacked on four draw controls, with
Sam Carey collecting five.
Laura Will added a score off the bench, while
Sarah Paul dished out two assists.
Maggie Dolan also chipped in an assist.
Julia Markey led the defense with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Amanda Chasin and
Kennedy Boyle also picked up two ground balls.
Goal keeper
Lexie Patton added a caused turnover and a ground ball to go along with six saves against the Tar Heels, facing the majority of UNC's 37 shots.
Next up, Campbell returns to Buies Creek for the first time in a month, welcoming Mount St. Mary's (Md.) to Barker-Lane Stadium on Saturday, March 23 at noon.
