Second half surge lifts Mt. St. Mary’s over Camels

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Mount St. Mary's outscored Campbell 13-2 in the second half to top the Camels 18-7 Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium.

The Mountaineers picked up their fourth-straight win, moving to 7-2 on the season, while Campbell dipped to 3-6 overall.

Tied 5-5 at the half, Beanie Colson returned the lead to Mount St. Mary's 17 seconds into the second period for the first of three straight goals for the visitors.

Ellie Allen broke up the streak with her second goal of the day for the Camels, but the Mountaineers added four more consecutive scores, and 10 of the game's final 11, to take the win.

After being outshot 15-11 in the first, the Mountaineers owned a 27-7 advantage in shots in the second half, also picking up 13 ground balls to Campbell's five in the second.

Colson produced a game-high four goals with an assist and six draw controls to pace the Mountaineers, while Cary Miller also notched five points, scoring twice and adding three assists. Jordan Butler, Zoe Hurlburt and Alayna Pagnotta posted three goals each, all coming in the second half.

Devon Filippone tallied four ground balls with a caused turnover, while Jillian Petito snagged 12 saves with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Allen, Annie Pazulski and Maggie Dolan all posted two goals apiece for the Camels, with Dolan chipping in an assist for a season-best three points, while Mackenzie Kolesar registered a goal and a helper.

Amanda Chasin collected four ground balls with a caused turnover, while Lexie Patton saved six Mountaineers shots. The freshman also gathered two ground balls with a caused turnover.

Next up, the Camels will wrap up their regular season nonconference slate, hosting No. 12 Duke on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Campbell opens up Big South play March 30, welcoming Presbyterian to Barker-Lane Stadium.
