ELON, N.C. - Kayla Fredendall belted a three-run home run as a part of a six-run third inning to help Campbell top Elon 6-2 Wednesday afternoon at Hunt Softball Park.
Kayla Fredendall (1-for-4, 3 RBI, 1 run) started the Campbell scoring surge in the third by launching the first pitch of the at-bat over the right field fence. Her seventh long ball of the season brought home
Bri Bryant and
Hannah McCravy.
Hannah McCravy led off the frame with a single up the middle before Bryant reached on an error.
After two Camels were retired,
Cassie Wancheck crushed 3-2 pitch to left center for her third home run of the season to make it 4-0.
One batter later,
Claudia Ware (3-for-4, 1 run) singled down the left field line before being moved over by
Christa Hall who reached on an error.
Avery Wheatley then reached on a scoring error to bring home Ware before
Bri Bryant drew a bases loaded walk to score Hall from third.
Haley Hutchins (6-7) tossed her sixth complete game of the year and picked up the win by allowing just two runs over five hits while striking out three.
Elon struck for two runs in the fifth with a two-run home run to left by Megan White.
The Camels have now won nine of their last 10 games and Campbell heads north to central Virginia for a three game conference clash with league-leading Longwood. The Lancers recently swept USC Upstate to claim the top spot in the conference at 5-1. The trio of contests are set to begin with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. followed by the series cap on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
