Furman tops Camels 11-9

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman posted a late 6-1 scoring run to pull away from visiting Campbell 11-9 Wednesday afternoon at Paladin Stadium.

Furman moved to 2-4 on the season, while Campbell dipped to 2-4.

With Campbell on top 7-5 with 16:32 to play following Ellie Allen's second goal of the day, the Paladins scored six of the next seven goals, including four-straight from 9:15 to 2:17, taking an 11-8 lead. Melissa Placek broke the Furman streak, cutting the lead to 11-9, but Furman held off the visiting Camels to take the win.

Facing a 5-3 halftime deficit, the Paladins outscored Campbell 8-4 in the second half, while limiting the Camels to just seven shots in the second frame. Campbell held a decisive 16-6 advantage on the draw, including an 8-1 lead in the first half.

Grace Pollak led Furman with six goals, bookending Furman's late run, and posting all three of the Paladins' first half scores. Hannah Demis also collected five points on two goals and three assists. Pollak and Demis both added four ground balls, while Isabelle Walsh gathered two ground balls and caused two turnovers.

Courtney Baker also snagged six saves.

Laura Will paced Campbell with three points, including two goals, with Ellie Allen and Melissa Placek also collecting two scores apiece. Placek also notched five draw controls, while Sam Carey registered a game-high 10, tacking on a goal, two ground balls and a caused turnover.

Making her first start of the season, Alex Salim collected 13 saves with four ground balls. Allison Waldhauser also chipped in three ground balls with two forced miscues.

The Camels will remain on the road for their next two matchups, heading to East Carolina on March 17 and nationally-ranked North Carolina on March 19. Campbell returns to Barker-Lane Stadium on March 23, hosting Mount St. Mary's (Md.).
