BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Bri Bryant drove in two runs in game two as Campbell spilt its doubleheader against Charlotte Thursday evening.
Campbell (19-24, 9-9 Big South) dropped game one 8-0 in six innings before bouncing back to claim game two 5-4 over Charlotte (12-28).
Game One
Charlotte recorded three multi-run frames to help claim game one 8-0.
After Charlotte put two runners on in the opening frame, Katie Manring (4-for-4, 6 RBI, 1 run) belted a three-run home run down the left field line to open the scoring numbers.
The 49ers added two more runs in the second when Spenser Gray sent an RBI ground out to second to plate a run from third before Emma Ocker singled through the left side to score the second run of the frame.
Lauren Riley (4-5) tossed six innings where she did not surrender a run across six Campbell hits while striking out three.
Haley Hutchins (7-13) allowed eight runs – seven earned – over five frames on 11 hits while walking three.
Manring added two more runs in the fourth with a two-RBI single down the left field line before tabbing her final RBI of the contest with a double to right center in the sixth which scored the game clincher.
Game Two
Campbell used a three-run seventh inning to secure the comeback win an claim game two of the doubleheader 5-4.
Charlotte opened with four-straight runs before
Abby Perryman rocketed a solo home run to right center for her fourth of the year to put the Camels on the board in the fifth.
Megan Mozingo followed with a triple down the right field line before being driven in on an RBI single to center from
Morgan Rios to make it 4-2.
Megan Richards (12-9) tossed her 12
th complete game of the season and picked up the win after allowing four runs – two earned – over seven Charlotte hits while striking out six.
Alison Green came on in relief for the 49ers and suffered the loss after tossing three complete frames where she surrendered three runs – all earned – on four Campbell hits while walking one and striking out four.
After a scoreless sixth on both sides,
Morgan Rios singled to right field before being moved over to second on a walk from
Christa Hall.
Hannah Jones then pinch hit and doubled to left field which plated Rios from second to make it 4-3.
Avery Wheatley then re-entered to run at second before
Bri Bryant singled up the middle to plate Wheatley and Hall from third to give the Camels the 5-4 lead.
With one down in the bottom half, Jude McGough singled up the middle from the eight spot. A walk moved her over and put runners on first and second after a looking strikeout before a groundout sealed the win for the Camels.
Notes
Cassie Wancheck, the nation's 11
th highest leader in hit by pitches, did not reach base in game one which ended an 15-game on base streak.
On Deck
Campbell takes the weekend off before returning home to host Louisiana Lafayette on Monday before welcoming North Carolina to the Creek on Wednesday.
