BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Kynadi Tipler and
Abby Perryman drove in four runs each as Campbell split its doubleheader with Gardner-Webb Tuesday evening at Brinkley Stadium.
Gardner-Webb (22-14, 3-5 Big South) claimed a 5-3 walk off win in game one before Campbell responded with a 8-5 win in game two.
Kynadi Tipler drove in four runs on the day and extended her hitting streak to 12 games.
Game One
Lily Pressley belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to claim a series opening win over the Camels (17-20, 8-6 Big South).
With Campbell leading 2-1 in the sixth,
Kynadi Tipler doubled to left field for her first hit of the day to score
Claudia Ware and make it 3-1.
After the Runnin' Bulldogs tallied an out, Ware doubled to right center to start the frame before being driven in by Tipler.
In the home half of the sixth, Autumn Owen singled to right field before Jenna Wacaster hit a two-run home run over the center field fence to tie the game 3-3.
Owen followed with her two run shot in the seventh which proved to be the difference.
Brooke Perry (14-7) picked up the win by going the distance where she allowed two earned runs across seven hits while striking out nine.
Haley Hutchins (6-10) was dealt the loss after tossing 6.1 innings where she allowed five runs over seven hits while walking two.
Wacaster opened the scoring slate with a solo home run to left field in the second to give Gardner-Webb an early 1-0.
Campbell responded with three-straight runs which was jump started by an RBI single from
Abby Perryman. Perryman's single up the middle scored
Claudia Ware to make it 1-1 in the third.
One frame later,
Bri Bryant doubled to left center to give the Camels their first lead of the contest by plating
Avery Wheatley.
The Camels stranded the bases loaded twice throughout the contest and totaled 12 runners left on over the course of the game compared the GWU's six left on.
Game Two
Kynadi Tipler and
Abby Perryman each drove in three runs as Campbell evened the series with an 8-5 over the Runnin' Bulldogs.
The Camels plated the first six runs of the contest before Gardner-Webb could push anything across.
Campbell plated three in the first which started with an RBI single up the middle by
Kynadi Tipler which scored
Bri Bryant who walked to lead off the inning.
One batter later,
Abby Perryman recorded an RBI groundout to bring home
Claudia Ware who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the frame.
Morgan Rios then ripped an RBI single to left field to bring home Tipler to make it 3-0.
Campbell followed with another three spot in second.
Avery Wheatley singled to start the frame before stealing second and being brought home on an RBI single up the middle from
Claudia Ware with one down.
An out later,
Kynadi Tipler roped a two-run home run to left center to bring home Ware and make it 6-0.
GWU answered with two runs in the third before a scoreless fourth frame.
Campbell plated its final two runs of the contest in the fifth before GWU gained three back with one in the fifth and two in the final frame.
After Tipler ripped a one out single to left field to start the fifth,
Abby Perryman homered to center field to plate two more runs and to make it 8-2.
Megan Richards (11-8) picked up the win by tossing all seven frames where she allowed five runs over nine hits while tying a season high for strike outs with eight.
The two squads will vie to claim the series tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.
