RALEIGH, N.C. - Megan Mozingo went 3-for-4 on the day and Campbell scored in every inning but two as the Camels topped NC State 8-6 Wednesday night at Dail Softball Stadium.
Four different Camels tabbed multi-hit games and the Campbell pitching staff stranded seven Wolfpack (26-23) runners.
Haley Hutchins (9-13) picked up the win by tossing 3.1 innings where she allowed three runs – all earned – on four hits.
Megan Richards started the game and came in to close it out as well. She hurled 3.2 innings where she allowed three runs but just two earned runs across just two hits.
Kayla Fredendall (1-for-5, 2 RBI, 1 run) put the first runs of the game on the board with her 12
th home run of the season. The sophomore ripped the pitch down the right field line to bring home herself as well as
Kynadi Tipler.
After a leadoff single to right field from
Bri Bryant and an out, Tipler singled down the left field line to put runners on first and second with one down. After Bryant was thrown out at third following a ball that bounced in the dirt and Tipler advancing to second, Fredendall ripped the 2-2 pitch over the right field wall.
The Wolfpack got one back in the bottom of the second frame. With two down, a fielding miscue followed by a single up the middle put runners on the corners for NC State. Angie Rizzi then came into score when the Camels tried to catch the latter runner trying to swipe second which made it 2-1 Camels.
Kynadi Tipler (2-for-3, 1 RBI, 2 runs, 2 BB) responded for the Camels in the top half of the third. The junior walked to start the inning before being moved over to second on a groundout.
Megan Mozingo (3-for-4, 1 RBI, 2 run) followed with a single through the right side which allowed Tipler to come into score from second after the right fielder bobbled the grounder.
In the fourth, a three-run bases clearing double from Madeline Curtis with two outs tied the contest, 4-4.
The Camels, however, responded with a three spot in the fifth inning.
Megan Mozingo connected for her fifth home run of the season to start of the inning.
One batter later,
Claudia Ware singled through the left side before being moved over on a walk from
Morgan Rios. After a strikeout, a walk from pinch hitter
Hannah Jones loaded the bases.
Two consecutive bases loaded RBI walks followed for
Abby Perryman and
Kynadi Tipler to make it 7-4 Camels.
Morgan Rios padded the lead in the sixth with an RBI groundout to Mozingo who singled for her third hit of the day to start the inning.
NC State drew to within two runs in the final frame with back-to-back RBI doubles but
Megan Richards struck out the final two batters to seal the win.
Campbell takes a break from action for exams before hosting Radford May 3-4 for the regular season series finale.
