BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Kayla Fredendall drove in two runs on the day and
Cassie Wancheck extended her on base streak to 14 straight games but Campbell dropped a pair of games on Saturday to USC Upstate at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
Christina Biggerstaff allowed just one hit in game one for USC Upstate (30-10, 10-4 Big South) in a 5-0 win before the Spartans exploded for 19 runs in a 19-5 win in game two over the Camels (18-22, 9-8 Big South).
Game One
Christiana Biggerstaff (18-3) did not allow a hit until the seventh frame in the series opening win.
Trailing 5-0,
Abby Perryman ripped a 1-1 pitch to right center to nod her 10
th double of the season.
Cassie Wancheck followed by getting hit by pitch for the second time of the contest which solidified her 14 game on-base streak.
Megan Mozingo tallied a six pitch walk to load the bases before Biggerstaff responded with three straight outs including two strikeouts which were a part of 10 on the day to strand the bases loaded.
Campbell was able to muster out four walks on the and two hit by pitch which resulted in seven Camels left on-base.
Biggerstaff, who leads the conference in ERA, picked up the win by going the distance and allowed just one base knock.
Haley Hutchins (7-11) tossed all seven innings for the Camels and allowed five runs – three earned – across seven hits in the loss.
Avery Wheatley drew a two-out walk in the third but was stranded there.
Kayla Fredendall followed with a walk in the fourth before the same result.
Wancheck was belted by a pitch in the fifth before
Danielle Northrup pinch ran and advanced to second on a sac bunt. Trail 2-0 however, two straight punchouts stranded here there.
Haley Hutchins kept the Spartans off the board until the third inning when Alicia Dorgan singled to third base which scored Riley Sheehy from third.
Alyssa Oakes reached on a fielding error and advanced to second before being replaced by Sheehy as a pinch runner.
One out later, Megan Obier singled to third to move over Sheehy before she was brought home.
After Obier stole second and then got moved over to third on an infield single, she came in to score on an RBI groundout to second by Savannah Grigsby.
The conference's home run leader Alyssa Oakes added another run in the sixth with a solo home run to left center before the Spartans tacked on two more in the final frame.
Game Two
Campbell tied the game, 4-4, in the second but the Spartans responded with 15 runs throughout the remainder of the game to claim the game two win and the series.
The Spartans opened with four runs, three in the first and one in the second, before Campbell tied it up in the second.
Abby Perryman put the Camels on the board early in the first with an RBI single through the left side which scored
Kayla Fredendall.
Bri Bryant started out the three-run second inning with an RBI ground out which scored
Megan Mozingo.
Mozingo singled to second base with one out to get the Camels going before she was moved over by a walk drawn by
Erika Richardson.
Avery Wheatley followed with a single up the middle to loaded the bases before Bryant plated Mozingo.
After
Claudia Ware walked to load the bases again,
Kayla Fredendall sent a two RBI single to center to bring home Richardson and Ware.
The Spartans responded by putting up a six spot in the sixth frame before adding nine more in the fifth before the Camels could get one back in the final fifth inning on an RBI double from
Kynadi Tipler which brought home
Claudia Ware.
Erin Hill (11-7) picked up the win by tossing all five innings where she allowed five runs on nine hits while walking two.
Megan Richards (11-9) was tabbed with the loss after going 2.2 innings where she allowed 10 runs but just three earned on nine hits.
Of the Spartans 19 runs, one seven were earned as the Camels tallied four errors in the contest.
