BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Claudia Ware and
Kayla Fredendall both drove in two more runs on the day as Campbell claimed both doubleheader games to clinch the sweep over Radford Saturday afternoon at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
Campbell (25-26, 13-10 Big South) claimed game one 6-2 before sealing the sweep with a 3-2 win in game two.
With the Camels' sweep over the Highlanders (23-32, 12-12 Big South) Campbell claimed the No. 3 seed in the Big South Conference Tournament which will be hosted in Buies Creek by Campbell starting on Wednesday.
Campbell will face Radford again at 2:30 p.m. in the second game of the day.
Game 1
Claudia Ware roped a bases loaded bases clearing triple in the fifth inning to help Campbell claim game one.
After three scoreless frames on both sides,
Abby Perryman reached on a fielding error which allowed
Kynadi Tipler and
Bri Bryant to come into score.
One frame later,
Claudia Ware launched a 1-2 pitch off the center field wall which scored
Bri Bryant,
Christa Hall and
Danielle Northrup.
Morgan Rios singled up the middle to start the inning before being replaced by Northrup at first base.
Christa Hall immediately followed with a single through the left side before both runners were moved up on a fly out to right field.
Bri Bryant then drew her 19
th walk of the season to load the bases before Ware cleared the bases.
Kayla Fredendall later sent an RBI groundout to first to bring home Ware and to make it 6-0 Camels.
The Highlanders struck for two runs in the sixth on a pair of sacrifice fly outs.
Haley Hutchins went the distance across seven frames where she allowed two runs, both earned, over six hits while striking out two.
Game 2
Marissa Green came on in relief to pick up the win and
Kayla Fredendall drove in two runs to help Campbell sweep Radford.
Green, who had pitched just 3.2 total innings coming into the game, came on in relief in the first inning and went 5.1 frames. The rookie allowed no runs on just four hits while striking out and walking a pair.
Haley Hutchins came in to pitch the final frame where she picked up her first save of the season after going one complete inning where she allowed one run. With the bases loaded, Hutchins snagged a line drive back her and tossed it over to third to end the game.
After Campbell plated the first run of the game in the first inning on an RBI infield single,
Kayla Fredendall launched her third home run in her last four outings and the second of the series.
With no one on base, Fredendall squared up a 2-0 pitch to tie the game 1-1.
With one out in the top of the fifth and a runner on second, Talia Douglas ripped a 0-0 pitch towards the left field wall but
Bri Bryant robbed the home run and then tossed the ball to second for the double play.
In the bottom half, Bryant ripped an RBI double to left field to bring home
Christa Hall and make it 2-1 Camels.
One batter later,
Claudia Ware singled up the middle followed by a
Kayla Fredendall single to right field which scored Bryant and made it 3-1.
In the final frame, the Highlanders loaded the bases twice but Hutchins' double play sealed the win for the Camels.
