CU fends off elimination with 6-0 win over CSU

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell blanked Charleston Southern 6-0 behind a complete game shutout from Megan Richards to fend off elimination in the Big South Conference Softball Championships Wednesday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

Campbell dropped its opening game to Radford 11-0 before claiming its latter game against The Buccaneers to advance to day two of the conference tournament.

Megan Richards (15-12) hurled her 16th complete game of the season where she allowed no runs and just two hits while striking out five against Charleston Southern.

Bri Bryant (3-for-4, 1 RBI, 2 runs)) followed her two hit performance in game one to extend her hit streak to nine straight games.

Megan Mozingo opened the scoring line with a bases loaded single to left field which scored Kynadi Tipler.

With one out, Kynadi Tipler walked to start off the inning before she was moved over by Kayla Fredendall on a single to second base. Abby Perryman then followed with a walk to load the bases for the Camels (26-27) before Mozingo drove in Tipler.

An out later, Christa Hall drew a bases loaded walk to bring home Fredendall and to make it 2-0 Camels.

One frame later, with the bases loaded once more, Kayla Fredendall singled up the middle to plate Bryant and Claudia Ware before a fielder's choice allowed Kynadi Tipler to come in to score and make it 5-0 Camels.

In the sixth, Bri Bryant left her final mark on the game with a solo home run, her third of the season, to right center.

Maggie Rowe drove in three runs and Destiny Freeman drove in two more as Radford topped Campbell 11-0 in game one.

Campbell returns to action tomorrow in the 5:00 p.m. elimination game. The Camels will face off against the lowest remaining seed who picked up a loss on day two. The game can be streamed live on ESPN3.
