Camels set to host Coastal Sunday night

Buies Creek, N.C. -- Campbell welcomes former Big South foe Coastal Carolina to Buies Creek Sunday night for a 6:00 p.m. contest to close out a three-game home stand.

LAST TIME OUT:
Campbell (0-1-1) dropped a 2-1 decision to Furman on Thursday. The Paladins struck for the first two goals before Alexa Genas intercepted an errant pass at midfield and took it the distance passed the diving Furman (2-1) keeper for the Campbell (0-1-1) score in the 31st minute. Sophomore keeper Reaghan Duval recorded five saves acrossthe full 90 minutes in her second career start

CAMELS DRAW WITH UNCG IN SEASON OPENER: Alexa Genas and Parker Ormsby both scored and assisted Sunday night in a 3-3 draw against UNC Greensboro at Eakes Athletics Complex. 

Trailing 3-1, Campbell rookie Parker Ormsby dribbled gathered the ball and dribbled past two defenders before striking her first career goal to the top left corner over the outstretched keeper from 28 yards out in the 84th minute.

Just four minutes later in the 88th clock rotation, Ormsby played the ball into the box from nearly the same spot she netted her earlier goal. Following a high bounce off the cross, the ball scooted past the charging keeper before Alexa Genas gathered the ball for the easy equalizing score from inside the box off her right foot.

ORMSBY NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: After scoring and assisting a goal in her first collegiate start, Parker Ormsby was named the Big South Conference Freshman of the Week. The Wilmington native ignited the Campbell comeback with a strike to make it 3-2 before assisting the match-tying goal in the 88th minute.

WHO'S BACK: Campbell returns 17 players from a season a go to pair with eight freshman and a duo of transfers in Katie Lockwood (Alabama) and Zona Kinnaman (Utah). Among the returners is the leading goal scorer from a season ago and the 2017 Big South Attacking Player of the Year - Alexa Genas. Last season the forward netted nine goals and dished out one assist. The senior's 32 goals ranks third all-time in Campbell history

DENKERT ADDED TO STAFF: Former Campbell player Shelby Denkert (2014-17) has been named the Director of Soccer Management by head coach Samar Azem. Denkert sits tied for first in school history for matches played and started (79). The Miami, Fla. native was named First Team All-Big South following her senior season as well as being named to the Big South All-Freshman team her rookie season. Denkert also tabbed Big South All-Tournament team honors in 2016, 2017.

NEW GRANDSTAND UNVEILED:  Campbell's new soccer grand stand at the Eakes Complex was completed over the summer and features seating for 580, including 300 chairback seats and 280 bleacher backs.  The brick-lined stand is situated between the 18-yard boxes on the north end of the stadium and is the latest improvement at the complex. Over the last four seasons, a new press box, team benches and video board have been added to the facility. 

LOOK BACK AT 2018: Campbell is coming off a 7-11-1 overall season while posting a 5-4-1 mark in league play. The winning record in Big South play marked the fifth-straight season the Camels posted a winning ledger in league play.  The Fighting Camels also advanced to the semifinals of the Big South Conference tournament for a program best fifth-straight season. 

SCOUTING COASTAL: Coastal Carolina enters the match with an 0-3 record with losses to North Florida, Clemson, and UNCW. Coastal's lone goal on the year is from Santana Pressley who netted a goal against UNCW in a 3-1 loss. Coastal who returns Hannah Miller,  who was tabbed a second-team All-Sun Belt pick last season, Miller made an immediate impact up front for head coach Paul Hogan's squad with a total of 12 points on five goals and two assists. Three of her five goals proved to be game-winners - at Davidson, at Troy, and on the road versus Georgia Southern, while she also assisted on the game-winning goal in the 2-1 home win over Little Rock.

CAMELS vs PALADINS: The two teams last met in 2015 when the Chants were in their final season as a Big South Conference  member. Campbell took a 1-0 win in Buies Creek.

NEXT UP: Campbell begins a three-game road swing with a matchup on the road at Mount St. Mary's on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Before traveling to St. Peters (Sept. 8) and Charlotte (Sept. 12).
