NEW ORLEANS, La. – Amon Kemboi has been named National Athlete of the Week by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Kemboi earned the honor after finishing first in the men's 6K at the Elon Opener on Friday, Aug. 30, marking the third straight year he's finished first at the meet.

The junior finished with a time of 18:19.4 in the race, finishing ahead of Duke's Alex Miley by about seven seconds.

Kemboi's first place finish helped the men's team finish second overall at the meet, behind Duke and ahead of North Carolina, UNC Greensboro, and Elon.

This is the second time Kemboi has been named National Athlete of the Week, previously earning the honor last year on Sept. 17, 2018.
