BUIES CREEK, N.C. — Campbell University volleyball earned its first win of the 2019 season behind a 21-kill performance by Sarah Colla as the Fighting Camels defeated NC Central in straight sets, 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-15), on Friday night inside Gore Arena.
Across 28 attacks, Colla put down a season-high 21 kills with no errors for a .750 hitting percentage, the highest mark by a Campbell outside hitter in program history. All-time, Colla's attacking percentage ranks second, behind former middle blocker Yolanda White's .800 outing on October 25, 1991 against Shaw.
Additionally, Colla's 21 kills rank seventh on the Campbell's individual three-set match list. She recorded seven kills in each set, including a perfect 7-for-7 performance in the final set.
Lailah Green posted seven kills on 14 attacks with just one error for a .429 ledger, while Allena Heath committed only two errors across 18 attacks with nine kills for a .389 percentage. As a team, the Camels hit .407 against NC Central, tying the sixth-best mark in school history.
The Campbell defense held NC Central to a minuscule .075 attacking percentage, forcing 19 errors while earning six team blocks. Hailey Wilson recorded five assisted blocks to lead the Fighting Camel front line.
Madee Miner and Emily Mitter again paced the offense, dishing out 19 assists and 16 assists, respectively. Elyse Gross finished with a match-high 14 digs, her fourth consecutive match with double-digit digs.
Campbell and NC Central meet again tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 7 in Durham for a noon first serve.
