Tuelle's 20 leads Camels past Lancers

FARMVILLE, Va.­- Shy Tuelle tallied just one point off her career-high with 20 points to help lead Campbell past Longwood on the road inside Willett Hall Monday night.
 
After going scoreless in the opening period, Tuelle tallied 10 second-quarter points to help boost her surpass the 20 point barrier for the second time in her career.
 
The sophomore made 7-of-19 shots from the floor including 4-of-9 from deep to pair with five rebounds on the night.
 
Campbell trailed 14-7 after the first period but Tuelle's 10 point effort in the quarter helped Campbell outscore the Lancers 21-12 over the 10 minutes of action.
 
Campbell followed with a 22-11 edge in the third period before pushing its lead to as many as 17 in the fourth period at the 7:29 mark when Ashlyn Hampton finished inside to make it 59-42.
 
The Lancers inched back to within nine on a Dayna Rouse lay in to make it 64-55 with 3:08 but could not get any closer to the Camels who led for more than 25 minutes of the contest.
 
Dayna Rouse led three Longwood (6-6, 2-1 Big South ) double-digit scorers with 17 points followed by Kyla McMakin (15) and Anne-Hamilton Leroy (12).
 
Campbell edged the Lancers in every specialty stat category with the largest advantage in second-chance points where the Camels tallied 33 second chance points on 49 rebounds to pair with a 26-12 points in the paint advantage.
 
Taya Bolden closed out the night just one rebound shy of a double-double for the Camels (8-5, 3-1 Big South) with 15 points and nine boards followed by Luana Serranho who tallied 13 points and four assists.
 
Campbell closed out the game shooting 35 percent after starting just 13 percent in the opening period while Longwood shot a 34 percent clip from the field.
 
Campbell returns to the friendly confines of Gore Arena on Thursday, where the Camels are undefeated, to host Gardner-Webb at 7:00 p.m.
