CAMPBELL-UNCW NOTES
  • The last two games between the Seahawks and Camels have gone into overtime.  CU downed UNCW 97-93 on Nov. 6, 2018 at Gore Arena behind Chris Clemons' 44 points - 15 in OT - in a game that featured 20 lead changes.  Last year at Wilmington, UNCW held off the Camels 81-76 at Trask Coliseum behind five Seahawks in double figures.
  • Campbell stands 4-1 against UNCW at Gore Arena since the building was dedicated in the 2008-09 season.
  • Coming off a 10-22 record in 2019-20, the Seahawks were picked 8th out of 10 teams in the preseason Colonial Athletic Association poll.
  • In the last meeting between the teams at Gore Arena, Chris Clemons scored 28 of his 44 points in the final 14:17 of play and Campbell defeated UNCW 97-93 in overtime.  Clemons scored all 15 of Campbell's points in the OT and the Camels overcame Ty Taylor's banked in triple with that forced the extra period. Andrew Eudy added 21 points, including a career-high 5 threes, nine rebounds, five assists and two blocks for the Camels, who closed the game on a 12-4 run.  The Camels held a 25-10 edge in points off turnovers.  In a game that included 20 lead changes and the score was tied on nine occasions, UNCW made 15-of-29 threes (.517), shot 46 percent overall, and held a 44-35 advantage on the glass.  However, Campbell made 13 triples, shot 46 percent and committed only seven turnovers.
  • UNCW owns a 61-44 edge in the all-time series, including a 41-13 advantage since the Camels and Seahawks moved to the Division I level in 1977-78, but Campbell has won 5 of the last 12 meetings.
  • With the Campbell and UNCW campuses separated by just over 100 miles, there are many ties between the schools.  Former Campbell Director of Athletics Bob Roller (2011-18) was SID at UNCW in the early 1980s, while Associate Director of Athletic Communications Jason Williams is a 2007 UNCW grad.  Mike Vaccaro, who is in his 16th year as the "Voice of the Seahawks," held a similar position at Campbell for six years (1998-2004).  UNCW assistant Rob Burke was assistant coach at Campbell for two seasons (2002-04) and is the son of Campbell Sports Hall of Fame member Bob Burke. Randy Hood, an all-conference center fielder who led the Camels to Big South championships in 1988 and 1990, is in his 20th year on the UNCW baseball staff and 2nd as head coach.
  • In the first-ever game between the Eastern N.C. rivals at Gore Arena, Junard Hartley hit a 3-pointer from the left corner with under two seconds to play to lift the Camels over UNCW 57-56 on Dec. 22, 2010.
  • Darren White scored 32 points - 23 in the second half - in a 72-60 Campbell win over UNCW on Dec. 29, 2012 at Gore Arena.
  • CU shot 54% from the floor and defeated the visiting Seahawks 69-63 on Dec. 23, 2014 at Gore Arena in the 100th meeting between the long-time rivals.  D.J. Mason, Reco McCarter and Andrew Ryan scored 15 points apiece to lead the Camels.
  • Following Monday's game, the Camels open Big South Conference play Dec. 30-31 at defending champion Winthrop.
